Our Under 12 squad were managed by Dave Sharman and Carl Dene for this season which was played in Division B of the Arun & Chichester Youth Football League.
The season started off with a 2-1 win away vs Worthing United Youth Colts with goals from Bailey Hazelton and Jack Kew followed by a 2-2 draw away vs Ferring Blue, both goals this time scored by Lewis Sharman.
October saw the beginning of the Cup season which unfortunately saw Lancing FC see off our Under 12s 2-0 at Sompting Recreation Ground, however they bounced back finishing the remainder of October with 2 wins out of 2 in the league; beating Arundel away 2-0 with Lewis Sharman scoring another brace and winning at home 6-2 against Felpham Colts Yellow with Lewis Sharman scoring all 6 to bag a double-hat-trick.
Their season ended just as strong as it had started, beating Selsey at home 3-1 with goals from Lewis Sharman (x2) and Archie Brown, followed by a 5-3 in the reverse fixture with Lewis Sharman scoring another 2 goals after Nathaniel Dene's opener.
Overall this superb squad managed to score 18 goals and finish mid-table in 5th in their first season in competitive football with both managers expecting new heights from the team next season.
Lets go! No, hold up... Ok, lets go!... Ah, no, scrap that.
All excited at the thought of getting back to football we started the season on a high with an away win before then losing to local rivals Lancing FC. Just as we were then finding form with a couple of wins the season was put on hold throughout November due to Lockdown pt.2.
In early December we thought we were back up and running with 2 matches against Selsey in as many weeks, winning one and losing one, before the season was brought to an early end due to lockdown pt.3.
Training has at times also been difficult with the stop start nature along with the additional COVID safety procedures etc. but the whole squad have been amazing throughout. Never questioning the new procedures, following them to the letter which was vital to allow us to continue as much as we did.
While it has been a frustrating year of football (last season and this) the most important thing is that everyone we know is safe and well, and for this we are thankful.
Looking forward, it feels that our stint at 9-a-side has been somewhat short and sweet which I think is not a bad thing for us. We have already had a couple of 11-a-side friendlies and I think our players will feel more at home with this format, perhaps as it is more familiar given it is what they watch on the TV etc, and initial showings are promising. All of the players continue to grow and develop in their own ways, both individually and as a squad which is great to see first hand. Picking out players for honours this year is hard due to how things have gone, however, one player has really shown the spirit and desire during the lockdowns, putting the time to best use to improve his technical skills as much as possible off his own back - and the results are there for all to see! We have always advocated that if players really want to improve they need to put in the effort outside of training too, in their own time. Coupled with being an ever present at matches and training, for these reasons our Managers Player of the Year is …. Well done lad! The players have also each had a vote for who they feel is their player of the year, and this coveted award goes to ….
The last words again goes to the parents and sponsors. Throughout these tricky times we have had their full support across the board which really does make our role that much easier. From helping with goals and equipment, running the line to collecting subs and even just getting players to training/matches on time etc. it all helps and is very much appreciated by us. Our sponsors again have been amazing this year allowing all players to have new home and away kits as well as lovely rain coats. In these tough times this is also very much appreciated!
